LGDI Activities

The LGDI, in collaboration with the National Association of Licensing Officers (NABPLO), was honored to meet with Senator JV Ejercito last February 7, 2024 to discuss the prospects of pushing for a robust framework that nurtured local businesses and advanced effective governance.
The LGDI is honored to have been invited to participate to join and celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in the Philippines. We are also honored to have been a part of the prestigious Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Medal of Excellence (KAME) awarding ceremony. It was a privilege to witness the recognition of outstanding achievements and to be a part of such a momentous event that celebrates leadership and excellence.
The Local Government Development Institute (LGDI), in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas’ Research Center for Social Sciences and Education, Faculty of Arts and Letters, and the Department of Political Science alongside the National Security Council and the Presidential Communications Office organized a student forum entitled “State of National Security in the West Philippine Sea: A Critical Analysis” held on November 28, 2023, at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium in the University of Santo Tomas. The forum is being held to promote enhanced understanding and critical analysis of the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea, as well as enable students to accurately, comprehensively, and responsibly report and engage in public discourse on the topic. Part of the forum is the conduct of informative sessions from academic experts and interactive discussion with the participants.
The Local Government Development Institute (LGDI), in partnership with the National Security Council (NSC), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Presidential Communications Office (PCO), conducted the 2nd WPS Media Seminar entitled "Navigating the West Philippine Sea Issue: Understanding the UNCLOS, the PH Position, and the 2016 Arbitral Award" at Midas Hotel, Pasay City on November 16, 2023. The said activity was led by Vice Admiral Ronnie Gil Galvan of Philippine Coast Guard, DDG-COS Staff Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. of the NSC, Atty. Jay L. Batongbacal of University of the Philippines College of Law, Director Andrea Leycano of the West Philippine Sea and Maritime Jurisdiction Division, and Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Atty. Fretti G. Ganchoon of the Department of Justice, and ADG. Jonathan Malaya of the NSC.
The Local Government Development Institute (LGDI) had a productive meeting with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines (KAS) on Monday November 6, 2023, LGDI Executive Director Eric de Torres and Chief Program Manager Janlery Laganao briefed KAS Philippines Director Ms. Daniela Braun on the state of decentralization in the Philippines, as well as the preparedness of LGUs in the implementation of the Mandanas-Garcia Ruling.
In October 27, 2023, the Local Government Development Institute (LGDI) engaged in a fruitful discussion with The Asia Foundation (TAF) centering around the subject of Development EntrepreneurshipThe conversation delved into the essence of Development Entrepreneurship as a framework, emphasizing a steadfast commitment to achieving impactful and effective reforms in governance, policies, and leadership.
The Local Government Development Institute (LGDI) had a coordination meeting with Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya, president of the National Association of Business Permits and Licensing Officers (NABPLO) in August 17, 2023. Atty. Malaya and Administrative Head Faisah dela Rosa led the discussion on good governance and the importance of pushing for the institutionalization of the business permit and licensing system in the country.
The Local Government Development Institute had an interview with former president Rodrigo Duterte regarding pressing issues and dynamics of political parties happening in the country last August 9, 2023 at Rizal Park Hotel. President Rodrigo Duterte shared his vision for his political party, PDP Laban, as well as his insights on the current state of the political party system in the Philippines in general. The interview was facilitated by LGDI Executive Director Professor Eric de Torres, LGDI Director Dr. Froilan Calilung, and Chief Program Manager Janlery Laganao.
The Local Government Development Institute (LGDI), represented by Director Vicente Homer Revil and Director Froilan Calilung, attended the hearing on Constitutional Reform held by the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments last February 6, 2023 at the House of Representatives of the Philippines. The LGDI, as a think tank institute, advocates for surgical amendments to the 1987 Constitution, specifically on its restrictive economic provisions.
Starting the year with a vision to implement projects and programs that have significant social impacts.
